Big Ideas in Small Spaces

We bring the best theatre, dance and cinema to the heart of communities in the Black Country

What’s On

Amazing performances, films and workshops coming up in community venues across the Black Country

Sanctuary in Sandwell

Sanctuary in Sandwell is a series of four short films that challenge the negative narrative around migration and foster empathy by sharing authentic stories from sanctuary seekers who have built new lives in Sandwell. Forward Poetry Prize winning poet Bohdan Piasecki speaks to four locals - Sozan, Jose, Ali and Lazo - about their experience of moving to the UK and how they’ve made Sandwell their home, writes a poem inspired by each person he spoke to within 24 hours of their conversation, and performs it back to them. The results are four short films and four beautiful poems.

What We Do

  • Community Promoters

We support local people to bring in professional theatre and dance shows to be performed in their community. We bring neighbours together, keep prices affordable and ensure venues are accessible to all.

  • Young Promoters

We partner with schools and youth groups to put young people in control. They choose the show, sell tickets, design posters and make it happen, all while growing in confidence and learning crucial business skills.

  • Community Cinema

We work with communities to bring film to local venues. Whether it’s the latest blockbuster, a singalong, documentary or dementia-friendly cinema, we create an accessible cinema experience.

  • Our Productions

We create shows that celebrate our shared home of the Black Country. Through theatre and dance, we shine a light on the region’s stories, personalities and diverse communities. We create theatre for local people.
