Meet our Where Are You? creative team!
Where Are You? is is our brand new digital theatre production for families produced in collaboration with Accra Theatre Workshop (Ghana) and commissioned by Birmingham 2022 Festival. Our incredible creative team spans across both the Black Country (UK) and Accra (Ghana). Meet them below!
Emelia Pinamang Asiedu
Emelia is an actor, theatremaker, educator, and Artistic Director of Accra Theatre Workshop in Accra, Ghana. She has special interests in live theatre, filmed media and arts education, and aims to help exhibit Ghanaian theatre and film on an international level. She has performed on various stages across the USA and Ghana. Emelia holds a BA in Theatre from Pomona College (Claremont, CA) and an MFA in Acting from the University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA).
Rochi Rampal
Rochi is a Birmingham based theatremaker, writer and performer. She has worked and toured with regional, national and international theatre organisations as both an actor and a scriptwriter, such as Upstart Theatre, Pathos München, Highways Athens, The Other Way Works, Stan’s Cafe Theatre Company, Rasa Theatre, Oxfordshire Theatre Company, Women & Theatre, Birmingham Repertory Theatre, and Creation Theatre. She has also performed for BBC Ragdoll and BBC Asian Network in their TV and Radio productions.
Sabrina Naz Nabi
Sabrina is an actor from Birmingham. She trained at the University of Wolverhampton and National Youth Theatre, and has taken to the stage in productions for The Birmingham Rep, Crescent Theatre, National Youth Theatre and The Play House. In 2021 Sabrina played Yasmin in feature film Panther In The Yard, and most recently, in February 2022, she played Shaz in BFI short film And The Music Mingles.
Michael Ellis
Michael is a filmmaker from Birmingham. He graduated in Visual Communication – Moving image from Birmingham City University, and works as a writer, director and editor. He has won several awards for his shorts films, including Best Short Film, Best Thriller Short Film and Award of Excellence.
David Addo Gyan
David is a music composer and sound designer from Accra. He has worked in the graphic design, film, animation, motion graphics, music, creative writing, television and events industries for well over a decade. He currently works in a range of areas spanning song writing, music making and video production. David’s music is influenced by folk, soul, jazz and gospel as well as his love for film, and his lyrics are driven by a desire to tell stories in his songs. David is the creator and co-founder of Post Hangout (a forum for digital filmmakers with a focus on post-production) and the Closed Sessions (a workshop and incubator series for singer-songwriters).
Andrew Dartey
Andrew Dartey is a Ghanaian-based videographer. His work experience spans filmmaking, photography, 3D motion graphics and editing. Some of his past clients include: The Ministry of Finance (Ghana), The British Council Ghana, Uber Ghana and Ghana’s Volta River Authority. He is excited to be working on a second collaborative project with Accra Theatre Workshop and Black Country Touring, and looks forward to the magic that the team will create.
Abigail King
Abigail is a theatre designer from Sandwell. She works predominantly in Birmingham and the Black Country, and loves to create work in unusual places. Recent unusual spaces include theatre that emerges from a couple of coffins for “The Death Show”, Theatre in caravans for “Life’s A Beach” (Black Country Touring), theatre in suitcases for “The Suitcase on the Wardrobe” (The Playhouse) and “Library Lion” (Untied Artists) which toured children’s libraries. Work in regular theatre spaces includes “The Storm Officer” (in association with Nottingham Lakeside Theatre), “Get It On”, “Hyped” and “Catfish” – theatre created for teenagers (Outspoken Theatre Company).
Lena Korsah
Lena Korsah is a Ghanaian artist and illustrator based in Accra. She is passionate about children’s education, literacy and creativity. Lena creates diverse, whimsical, and relatable characters representing a wide range of cultures and demographics which ensure inclusivity in her illustrations. She hopes to inspire imagination, creativity and support the African education sector through her work.
